Another summer day in San Francisco

Sunday, August 16th, 2009

San Francisco, mid-August, 63F, and the usual clear summer skies:

If you want to photograph the whole Golden Gate Bridge you may want to consider visiting the city before July, otherwise the cloudy sky makes for some interesting pictures,  just remember to bring your winter jacket and gloves as they may come handy…

San Francisco Museum of Modern Art (MoMA)

Sunday, August 2nd, 2009

Today was devoted to a visit of the Museum of Modern Art in San Francisco with its special exhibit of nature photographer Ansel Adams. Ansel Adams’ photographs were fantastic and since there was some time left I also visited parts of the permanent modern art collection the museum has to offer. Some of the modern art pieces are presented below with insightful explanations.

Interestingly, pictures of modern art take very little space, and JPEG compressibility depends primarily on the amount of information present in a picture…

This one is called “Cleaning my paintbrush”:

Such a delicate painting ignited my inner creativity and resulted in a modern photograph representing the blurriness of the past, the darkness of the present, and an unpredictable future:

Bodie State Park

Sunday, July 19th, 2009

Here are a few shots from Bodie State Park near Mono Lake in California, these photos date back from June 2008 and were taken with a wide angle Tokina 12-24mm ATX Pro lens. The park is usually accessible from mid-May to November, during winter over-snow equipment is required since the last few miles leading to the entrance are unpaved. If you are in the area you should also spend couple hours near Mono Lake with its unique rock formations.

Joshua Tree National Park

Saturday, July 4th, 2009

The visit started with a hike to 29 Palms’ oasis:
29_Palms_3The sight of the oasis at the horizon is quite surreal given that we had been hiking in the middle of the desert for 45 minutes with just rocks and cacti in sight:
