I went on a full day speed boat tour of the Ang Thong National Marine Park west of Koh Samui. We started the tour with a snorkeling stop. While the water was clear it was nowhere as clear as Koh Tao’s waters.

If you don’t want to be stopped every block by tailors and massage shops you may want to stay away from Chaweng Street or avoid Koh Samui altogether…

I booked a snorkeling tour around the island via Diamond Tours, they are cheap, the owners are super nice. They stop by several snorkeling spots around Koh Tao including Shark Bay where you can spot black tip reef sharks, and dock on Koh Nangyuan for the final stop which offers a breathtaking view from its top.
I loved this tour so much that I booked the exact same tour the next day (not that I had much else to do on Koh Taho anyways).

Since I’m always carrying a DSLR camera I was hesitant participating in Chiang Mai’s Songkran festival. Eventually I extended my stay in Chiang Mai thanks to the red shirts in Bangkok. Luckily people were nice and avoided throwing water as long as the camera was visible (YMMV), it was another story once I left it at the hotel.

Once again, if you value your life I suggest not to rent a motorcycle during the Songkran festival:
